As a freshman, I was very disappointed in the culture and atmosphere in the school. Senior: I have attended Los Angeles International Charter High School, since my freshman year and I have been able to witness the changes that have taken place throughout the years. Certain textbooks and classes are often in short supply or unavailable because of the lack of resources. It took them several years to start offering lunch to students. My only qualms with the school are administrative problems. It was a lifesaver for students like me who are overachieving, but couldn't thrive in a normal public school environment. Their class schedules are flexible so that you can set your own work pace, but the requirements are rigid enough to motivate you. In recent years they've also begun offering more programs for college and work which have been tremendously helpful. Their Pathways Program offers amazing opportunities for education and travel that you can't get anywhere else, they provide all the supplies you need for each class free of charge (including laptops and internet access), and the staff really cares about helping each student succeed. Senior: Offered a wide variety of options including online, small classroom instruction, and independent study. This school is nothing but beneficial and everyone develops memories to be saved as well as strong friendship. It is a positive place where all students are able to achieve their education in a supportive environment. Each staff member is dedicated to their job and there's never a dull moment at this school. Each student is supported by everyone individually and this school has become a safe space for all students. There is so much motivation to push students to their absolute best. This school is much different from various schools because you feel the support rather than experiencing a negative feeling. At this school we are not just considered students, but we are family. All staff and faculty take the time to create individual bonds with everyone. Everyone here has an amazing personality and they do everything in their power to make sure we all succeed. Everyone here applies to colleges and is supported by everyone on campus. Junior: Academia Avance is a great school and is college bound. Through my experience at Anahuacalmecac I have been able to grow immensely educationally and personally. In addition, regular classes I have been able to participate in many different extra curricular activities some being our environment club, Student Council, art and danza clubs, as well as extracurriculars that are connected to local city government that work towards restorative justice. Through my learning I have excelled in all my classes that range e AP Spanish to college accredited courses. I have been fortunate enough to learn greatly form community leaders like Nahuatl elders, Gabrielino Shoshone elders, cultural bearers, organization coordinators and many others. America since kindergarten I have been able to learn immensely from a curriculum based and focused on indigenous peoples traditional knowledge, learning from the land, and developing community within different indigenous communities. Junior: Having attended Anahuacalmecac International University Prep of N.
